I hate cold-calling, but we are required to make 30 dials a day. Any suggestions?
Yea, about 20! I have a lot of thoughts on the value (or lack of) of cold calling, but since I’m not running your sales team and we don’t have time for that, here are a couple of quickies:
- Stand up when you make the calls and smile. Motion creates emotion – Anthony Robbins said that once…or twice
- Get a pre-read out to your prospects you are dialing to
- Don’t let the phone hit the receiver. Something psychological happens and you’ll lose your mojo
- The first three dials are the toughest. Warm up by calling existing customers first and then hit the cold ones
- Practice your script at least three times with a colleague before getting on the phone. As humans we like doing things we are good at, things we are competent at.
- Practice builds competency!
Go get ‘em, and if you want me to talk to your boss about a better strategy to attract business, have him email me!
